Slog: The Internet in 2010

Posted By Steve Heikkila on 09/11/2009

Ed: This post is part of White Horse’s occasional series of slogs (speed blogs). Slogging—a concept we created here at White Horse—riffs on improv comedy concepts to create interactive writing activities. These short games bore fruit with tons of great ideas. More details are here.

The first activity we did was “Quantity over Quality”—the idea was to write as many words as possible in just a few minutes. Coherence was optional. The winner of this activity was strictly determined by word count.

What will the Internet be like in 2010?
Facebook, which was the Twitter of a year ago, will fall off the map pretty quickly in favor of something similar. Maybe an earbook or alegbook, or hell, I dunno, possible a book associated with some other body part, or maybe even a body part—perhaps even sticking with the whole face thing—associated with some other non-booklike object, like Facewrench or Facecupcake or Facenail or FaceMollyHatchetRecord. Oh yeah, in coming years once we all have personal hovercraft there’ll be some kind of Web based app for that, including possible hovercraft/iPhone hybrid apps. And soon people with be taking out their trash online, as well as other previously analog associated domestic activities managed by the I-Waffle iron, the I-Toaster, and WindowsMop and Bucket 2011, Enterprise Edition. Dog walking and cat walking (yes people will increasingly walk their cats) will also go largely digital. It’s hard to wrap your head around that, I know, but trust me, its gunna happen. I know. I’m a professional. Pretty soon, the Internet’s gunna come in a can with a pop-top that people will often mistake for a Coors Light, and vice versa.
